After making several passes it started to really shine. My paint was in bad shape, so when I ran one pass, it didnt do squat. Turns out I just needed to cut the paint many times to get it down to the shine I wanted. seemed to scratch up the paint even worse. when I put it on, I was really getting annoyed. I first applied it to the front bumper just under the head light. So, I decided to try the Meguires ultimate compound after reading this thread. Body lean is minimal, and theres only moderate penalty to be paid in ride comfort.X2 they did use a single stage paint. In quick, tight turns, the MP3 clings tenaciously to the pavement. Where the MP3 really shines is in its handling talents. Its a little more taxing to drive, due to the need for heavier pressure on the clutch pedal, and the exhaust tone adds to the MP3s sportiness. Performance also is appealing, especially when equipped with the manual shift and larger engine.Īs expected, acceleration in the MP3 is stronger than that of the regular Proteg, though the difference is not dramatic. Priced in the same league as more ordinary sedans, Mazdas compact stands a strong cut above in the handling department. It also is highly competent on the road and fun to drive, befitting the claims for sportiness made by Mazda. The Proteg is among the more spacious and well-equipped compact sedans. Side-impact airbags, antilock brakes and electronic brake-force distribution are available in an option group. In other models, either a five-speed-manual or four-speed-automatic transmission can be installed. The engine in the MP3 sedan develops 140 hp, using a low-back pressure Racing Beat exhaust system and working with a manual shift. Mazda has dropped the 1.6-liter engine, so all DX, LX and ES models now carry a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 130 hp. The MP3 sedan includes a Nardi three-spoke steering wheel and MazdaSpeed lightweight pedals, and the Proteg has a shorter gearshift lever. White-faced instruments and a new modular audio system with a CD player are standard, and a new center console includes covered storage. A split, folding rear seat supplements the 13.2-cubic-foot trunk space.Īir conditioning is optional on the DX sedan and standard on other models. Interior volume amounts to 92.6 cubic feet, and it has adequate rear legroom and headroom for adult passengers. As a result of what Mazda calls OptiSpace design, the Proteg can actually accommodate the five passengers that it claims to hold. This is one of the roomier small cars on the market. MP3 models are finished in Laser Blue or Vivid Yellow. The MP3 sedan features a large front air dam with integrated driving lights, side sill extensions, a large rear spoiler and low-profile tires on special Racing Hart 17-inch wheels. New body-colored mirrors go on the LX and ES, and a power moonroof is available. Alloy wheels hold 16-inch tires, but 15-inch wheels are optional on the DX model. A black-chrome grille, fog lights and a rear spoiler are part of the DX, LX and ES sedans. What Mazda describes as ∾uropean-inspired styling emerged from a collaboration among designers in Europe, Japan and California. Slightly longer than the Honda Civic, the Proteg has a 102.8-inch wheelbase and measures 175.3 inches long overall. Meanwhile, Mazda continues to promote itself as a sporty car company, using its zoom-zoom advertising theme. Ford owns a controlling interest in Mazda. Each 2002 vehicle benefits from a reinforced body/chassis structure, and a new modular audio system with a standard CD player is installed in all sedans.Ī redesign isnt likely until 2004, but when it does occur, the Ford Focus platform may possibly be used. The 1.6-liter engine, previously standard on the DX sedan, has been dropped. Only 1,500 units were built initially, and they were sold out before they reached the United States, but Mazda is considering bringing back the MP3 later in the 2002 model year.Įxcept for the MP3, all models now use a 130-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine designed by Mazda. The MP3 also is fitted with a high-output 140-horsepower engine and a number of performance-oriented components from racing suppliers. Now, Mazda is helping to revive the small hatchback body style with its new Proteg5 sport wagon, launched as an early 2002 model.ĭuring the 2001 model year, Mazda introduced another variant of the Proteg, dubbed MP3 to denote its Kenwood audio system. The Proteg sedan received a front-end face-lift for 2001. By the time of Autumn Sonata,Ingrid was suffering terminal breast cancer and the film was to be her last. Yet this was a collaboration that very nearly did not happen. Bergman wrote Autumn Sonata in a few weeks, the fulfilment of an earlier promise to his Swedish contemporary Ingrid Bergman that he would include her in a film. How, then, to gain entry into Autumn Sonata, the inviting anteroom of Ingmar Bergman’s labyrinthine cinematic castle?īiography presents perhaps the most logical starting point. Employing cinematography of a lighter hue, and benefiting from the masterful acting of Ingrid Bergman and Liv Ullman playing Charlotte and Eva respectively, Autumn Sonata is one of Bergman’s more accessible films, and thus provides a gentle entry into his imposing corpus. A late-career chamber piece, with just a few characters and the contained setting of a country parsonage, it marks a return to the almost claustrophobic intensity of earlier films like Through a Glass Darkly (1961), Winter Light (1963), The Silence (1963) and Persona (1966), all of them clearly indebted to his work in theatre. If forced to choose, Autumn Sonata (1978)would be an appropriate place to begin. The edifice of Ingmar Bergman’s oeuvre is of such vast scope and is riddled with such ramifying thematic veins that it is almost impossible to treat any individual work in isolation. To Kara’s tribe, the exploits of her ancestors are legendary. These remnants must be explored, and mystical items gathered to upgrade Kara’s skills, health, and power, through the tower system to complete the game.Īs an extra, PS4 players will receive Kara’s Ancestral Gear bonus items if they purchase the game within the first two weeks of launch until September 10. As you discover more on these islands, you’ll come across remnants of the people/beings that once lived there before Kara arrives. Your custom-crafted vessel enables you to explore and progress through the islands, surrounded by sea and a mysterious storm. Unlike most survival games that have settlements, your ‘base’ and indispensable partner is your boat that you bring with you throughout the game. It’s both the environment itself and the creatures that make things feel more hostile, so as the player advances, they’ll make their way through forests, deserts, swamps and savannah landscapes that every player will see differently, going deeper into the belly of the beast as they progress through the game. Exploration at first is quite intentionally very friendly, but then as you progress through the game you’ll start getting introduced to more obstacles within the environment. There are five chapters to explore within the game, each with their own group of procedurally generated islands, which affects everything from the look and feel of the islands, the creatures and challenges, to the in-game music which is also generated procedurally to compliment the unique experience players will have each time they play. The moment you’re washed ashore, you’ll need to know where to look for food to ensure Kara doesn’t starve and learn how to craft various weapons and tools, allowing her to hunt the fauna of The Forbidden Islands more effectively and gather more advanced materials to craft stronger equipment, higher quality boat-building materials, clothes, potions, ammunition and storage. Kara’s innate knowledge of crafting and her survival skills are essential for her to move forward in Windbound. She knows the resources she needs to start crafting her initial canoe, to improve upon what she’s already built and then eventually get off that first island and on to the next set in the archipelago chain, until she can eventually make her way back to her family. We wanted Kara to be a character that was able to survive in the situation she finds herself in, she’s not completely out of her depth, so when she washes up on shore, she knows what she needs to do to hunt and gather food to survive. All this while navigating rocky formations, storms and dangerous sea creature’s intent on taking a bite out of you and your precious boat! Crafting You’ll learn how to tack – a manoeuvre allowing you to sail upwind by zig-zagging and when to tighten and loosen your sails to find a comfortable speed, taking full advantage of the current wind direction, without capsizing. You might find the wind isn’t blowing in your favour for your intended destination. You’ll have to learn quickly how to direct your boat and align your sails, to ensure you stay on course. This will fundamentally change the way your boat travels by following the wind direction, instead of paddling with an oar. Let’s say you add your first mast to your boat. However, some construction will change the way you sail more than others. You can upgrade your boat at any time, even while you’re travelling, provided you have enough materials on you, such as adding masts, additional hulls or perhaps some storage or a small fire to keep you warm at night. Spoiler Alert – you probably won’t survive if you do! You’ll face harsh fauna and rock formations while at sea so you’ll be rewarded for crafting your vessel with some TLC, otherwise you may be faced with the perils of losing your boat in the depths of the waters. It’s up to you to decide what materials you make it from and what peripheries you add to it to create the perfect boat. Your choices will impact the way you sail and survive at sea, so favouring speed or durability, for example will come with its own benefits and downsides. Boat building is modular and full of options towards how you want to construct your ideal vessel. Your boat is your greatest companion in Windbound. Visit every Friday as we share how Windbound was brought to life, from the first sketch on a piece of paper, to the game that it is today. The short-term high from a pilot strike vote actually fights against their goal of higher wages. Both Airbus and Boeing have also delayed delivery of new planes, further restricting this summer’s capacity. The limited supply is the slower build-back of capacity by the industry, in part due to staffing limits. This is because of strong demand, and somewhat limited supply. Fares Are High EnoughĪirline fares are high this year and into this summer. The biggest effect may be in galvanizing the rank and file toward a new deal sponsored by their leaders. Strike votes that have almost no impact on reality are done to scare customers, and by doing so put pressure on the airlines to step up and close a new deal more quickly. This, not picketing and strike votes, is why every pilot flying today can be comfortable that they will be paid more for their services. The result of all of this is increases in pilot wages across the industry. This has both limited the number of candidates and excluded many under-represented groups among its pool. On top of this, it has become very expensive to get the training needed to become a commercial pilot. More recently, the government increased the minimum hours requirement to be hired as a pilot, and this has caused an upheaval for pilot wages in the regional airlines initially. This created a five year pause on the need for many new pilots. In 2007, the mandatory retirement age for commercial pilots was increased to 65 from 60. military had ceased to become a major recruiting source for the commercial industry. Today, pilots are undersupplied for a number of reasons. airline industry is often shaped by the fluctuations in this market, as nicely documented in the classic book Hard Landing by Thomas Petzinger. Pilots, like all labor groups, represent a market that sometimes is oversupplied sometimes undersupplied. The point is clear - pilots strikes rarely happen because the RLA process is designed to make that true. American Airlines pilots were on strike for just over 10 minutes in 1997, but that’s because President Bill Clint0n used the PEB process to quickly get the carrier flying again. It was also influenced by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) need to reestablish credibility in advance of some bigger value deals coming soon, like those at Airtran and the then-just announced merger between Continental Airlines and United Airlines.īefore 2010, the last significant pilot strike in the U.S. I was CEO of Spirit at this time, and that strike was only partially due to disagreements between Spirit and its pilot union. The last pilot strike in the U.S.was 13 years ago, in 2010, at Spirit Airlines. The process also makes actual strikes very rare. Often, big headline-making wage improvements are biased by the fact some some of the payments are to make up for years in negotiation with no increases. The RLA process can take years, and often does. A PEB was used to avert a strike at American Airlines in 1997. air traffic, a PEB is likely though not certain. For one of the big four airlines in the U.S., who each carry roughly 20% of all U.S. The PEB compels each side to keep negotiating and does not allow any self-help action to take place. This allows the President of the United States to convene a Presidential Emergency Board (PEB). The RLA has one other feature to stop a strike. In 2005, Northwest Airlines locked out their mechanics and replaced them at this point in their negotiation process. That means the union can strike, and that management can lock out current employees and replace them. During this period, both sides can continue to negotiate knowing that if the cooling off ends without a deal, each side can resort to self-help. If it gets to this point, the mediator can “release” both sides from the mediation process and then the two sides enter a 30-day “cooling off” period. The mediation process can fail if the mediator believes that the two sides cannot reach a deal. |
